ABSTRACT

X-ray may show splaying of the lower rib cage and centrally located floating intestines. I.v. pyelography may show a characteristic ‘halo’ sign produced by extravasation of contrast material into the perirenal area. A voiding cystourethrogram will demonstrate extravasation of contrast material and may show the underlying cause (Fig. 53.1a,b). Ultrasonography may be used to demonstrate free intraperitoneal fluid.
