ABSTRACT

Presently, the term ‘hemangioma’ is used to describe a variety of vascular lesions with different etiologies and natural histories. They are the most prevalent congenital lesions in infants and children.2-13 The incidence of hemangiomas has been estimated to be 0.54 per 1000 live births.3 Of all newborns, Up to 75% have a vascular mark present at birth.7,8,14,15 Most of these lesions disappear without treatment. Girls are affected two to three times more often than boys.4-6,16 Functional complications reportedly occur in 20% of all hemangiomas and lifethreatening complications develop in 3-5% of children with hemangioma.3
