ABSTRACT
Development of the external genitalia is a complex process in the male, which predisposes to many congenital anomalies. Understanding the anomalies requires a detailed knowledge of the embryology, and particularly the central roles of androgens (in coordinating the masculinization of the anatomy) and the processus vaginalis (which allows descent of the intraabdominal fetal testis into the scrotum).
