ABSTRACT

In brain imaging, MRI exploits the 14% difference in water content between gray and white matter to demonstrate them much more clearly.13 The latest MRI scanners give exquisite detail in imaging the brain14 (Fig. 11.11) and spinal cord, for which it should be the investigation of choice for suspected space-occupying lesions. Myelography should rarely be necessary for spinal lesions if MRI is available as a non-invasive, radiationfree investigation (Fig. 11.12).
