ABSTRACT
In urinary tract obstruction, percutaneous nephrostomy to relieve the obstruction is widely practiced and is ideally performed under ultrasound control. A single stab technique should be used and a pigtail catheter containing a long needle and stilette can be introduced directly now without using a guide wire. The sharp echo of the needle is readily identified as it is guided into the dilated collecting system (Fig. 11.16).
