chapter
THE INTEGRATION OF BIOGAS PRODUCTION WITH WASTEWATER TREATMENT
Pages 11

For more than two decades, aquaculture systems employing plants grown on sewage have been proposed as alternatives to conventional wastewater treatment processes. In addition to removing pollutants, some of these systems can provide biomass in substantial amounts for conversion to methane. This concept requires the integration of at least three technologies: (1) anaerobic digestion; (2) biomass management for achieving maximum yields; and (3) aquaculture treatment of wastewater to meet federal, state, and local standards.
