HERTIE AND THE BUND: THE HISTORY OF AN UNCOMMON COOPERATION
BySimone Will
Pages 22

The present case study describes and analyses the process of ecological reorientation introduced by one of the largest department stores in Germany.

Contrary to what was originally planned for the project, the following pages do not focus on one single substantial ecological improvement such as might emerge for example as a result of a technological innovation in the production process. Instead, the study is based on a number of smaller individual measures that Hertie had initiated in the course of recent years and which constitute the success of the case under study only when seen in their entirety. This approach seems justified for at least two reasons.
