ABSTRACT

Impervious surface is the anthropogenic surface that prevents water from infiltrating into soil (Arnold and Gibbons 1996), and it is widely distributed in urban areas. Impervious surface can be categorized into two primary types: rooftops and transportation systems (e.g., roads, sidewalks, and parking lots) (Schueler 1994). Impervious surfaces are made of materials impenetrable for water, such as asphalt, concrete, bricks, or stones. Compacted soils are also highly impervious and considered another type of impervious surface (Arnold and Gibbons 1996).
