ABSTRACT

Throughout history, every wave of new knowledge, new technology,

has resulted in a split in society, between those people who embrace

change and learn how to benefit from that new knowledge and

those who do not. Shifts in power also follow. Even established

major players that fail to respond appropriately to innovative and

disruptive technologies can find their business models severely

challenged. Some of the innovators go on to form businesses

and create wealth for themselves and for society. These are the

entrepreneurs, sometimes considered foolish and unrealistic, but

bold enough to follow their instincts and dreams. Whether they

are technical experts or not is often less important than their

ability to sniff out opportunities and their courage to act on

them before others do. Somehow, they are able to see how to

develop and combine the elements that are necessary for building

a business. In terms of general direction, they know what must

be done and acknowledge that they will undoubtedly encounter

many difficulties, especially unforeseen ones.More importantly, they

accept the reality that the only way to resolve those challenges

is to keep trying, often failing repeatedly, as they build their own

experience base.
