Population Stratification with Mixed Membership Models

WithSuyash Shringarpure, Eric P. Xing

Population stratification (or population structure) is the presence of genotypic differences among different groups of individuals. Genotype-based clustering of individuals is an important way of summarizing the genetic similarities and differences between groups of individuals. It enables us to formulate and test hypotheses regarding evolutionary history of populations. Identifying population stratification is also important in genetic association studies and other population genetic analyses.
