ABSTRACT

The performance of SiC-supported ruthenium catalysts was investigated during Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) using a continuously stirred-tank reactor. A stable and steady conversion is achieved with 2%Ru/SiC catalyst for the FTS reaction. At similar conversion levels, 2%Ru/SiC catalyst exhibited higher C5+ selectivity and lower methane selectivity (83.8%, 6.0%) under the conditions of T = 493 K, P = 2 MPa, and H2/CO = 2, compared with traditional FTS-supported cobalt catalysts, such as 25%Co/Al2O3 (75.1%, 11.1%) and 20%Co/SiO2 (75.8%, 11.2%). However, SiC has much lower surface area (30 m2/g) than Al2O3 (150 m2/g) and SiO2 (365 m2/g). The improvement in the C5+ selectivity observed with the SiC catalyst
