ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the multidisciplinary role the naturopath has in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD). It discusses lifestyle optimization through diet, mind body medicines, targeted nutritional supplements, exercise, fasting, grounding, and detoxification techniques as appropriate adjunctive therapies in not only the prevention of CVD and hypertension but also the overall management. When choosing to eat a vegetarian diet, it is very important to limit or completely eliminate gluten and to make sure that particular vitamins are replenished. Unhealthy vegetarians are those who typically consume high quantities of gluten and sugar products in place of meat products. They too suffer from most of the modern world’s chronic diseases that are highly preventable through healthy eating. Regular exercise can reduce blood pressure in hypertensive and normotensive individuals. Traditionally, botanical medicines have been used to lower blood pressure and support the heart.
