The treatment of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) presents the clinician with several challenges. Some of the most persistent and troublesome symptoms can be made worse by ‘conventional’ therapies. A complex balance often has to be struck, as treatments to improve motor symptoms can make neuropsychiatric symptoms worse, and vice versa. Although many treatments are given empirically, there are now some well-conducted clinical trials emerging which can aid treatment decisions in the area.
