ABSTRACT

Infections involving skin and soft tissue are referred to by two synony-

mous terms: skin and skin structure infections and skin and soft tissue

infections (SSTIs), complicated or uncomplicated (1). Uncomplicated

SSTIs include superficial infections, such as cellulitis, simple abscesses,

impetigo, and furuncles. In most instances, these infections can be treated

by surgical incision alone or in the case of cellulitis with antibiotics alone.
