ABSTRACT

In this chapter we define new strategies for WLAN 802.11 and 3G convergence at the service level. This convergence is based on the service delivery infra-structure proposed by IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). These strategies are beyond the 3GPP solutions for wireless local area networks (WLAN) access to the IMS. Our main aim from this convergence is to introduce new

services such as session mobility/splitting and intelligent call routing between these two access technologies. Our strategies of convergence is independent of network infrastructure and thus fit well with the LTE (Long Term Evolution) infrastructure architecture.
