Assessment of Vitamin Status of Athletes

Vitamins are organic compounds required in small amounts not only for survival but also necessary for athletic competitions. Vitamins cannot be synthesized in large enough quantities endogenously to meet metabolic requirements for efficient daily functioning and therefore must be consumed.1,2 Some vitamins must be converted to an active form or be incorporated into coenzymes, while some are capable of functioning without modifications.2
