Radiologic evaluation of the breast
ByAda P. Romilly
Pages 10

The techniques used to image the breast are based on morphological and/or physiologic differences between tumors and normal breast tissue. X-ray mammography and ultrasound imaging methods are based primarily on the morphology of breast masses whereas differences in the physiology of tumors versus normal breast tissue are used to produce positron emission mammography (PEM) and breast-specifi c gamma imaging (BSGI) images. Contrastenhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is unique in that both morphological features and functional lesion features are used for diagnosis.
