Reducing Delays Associated with Disk Energy Management
Research on energy conservation has traditionally been focused on battery-operated devices. However, recent works have also highlighted the positive financial and environmental implications of energy conservation for stand-alone servers and workstations [2,4,7,15]. For example, large organizations often require shutting down workstations, unneeded servers, and cooling systems overnight to reduce energy costs. Setups such as academic institutions and businesses, where users frequently work remotely and at all hours, also employ dynamic energy management.
