ABSTRACT

Zinc is one of the most common elements in the Earth’s crust. Metal zinc was rst produced in India and China during the Middle Ages. Zinc is found in air, soil, and water and chemical waste sites and is present in all foods. Pure zinc is a bluish-white shiny metal. Zinc metal has extensive industrial and commercial applications. Zinc metal is used to coat steel for corrosion protection, galvanising, electroplating, and electrogalvanising; as an alloying element in bronze, brass, aluminium, and other metal alloys; for zinc die casting alloys; for zinc dry cell batteries; as coatings to prevent rust; mixed with other metals to make alloys like brass and bronze; for coinage applications; in the production of zinc sheet for architectural and as a reducing agent in organic chemistry; and for other chemical applications. Zinc is also used for metal coatings to prevent rust and mixed with other metals to make alloys like brass and bronze. Zinc combines with other elements to form zinc compounds. Zinc compounds are widely used in industry to make paint, rubber, dye, wood preservatives, and ointments.
