ABSTRACT
Drought is one of the primary risks faced by cattle and other livestock ranchers in the United States but many ranchers fail to prepare adequately for and respond to drought, resulting in a range of potentially negative social, environmental, and economic effects, as discussed in previous chapters. New drought risk management initiatives in the United States are aimed at producing usable scientific information, management tools, and financial mechanisms to foster proactive management of drought risk among ranchers.
