Opportunities and Challenges for Appropriate Nutrition of the Elderly Cancer Patient

Appropriate nutrition is fundamental to the health and functioning of elderly individuals. Unfortunately, the elderly are particularly susceptible to inappropriate nutrition, independent of whether or not they are hospitalized. Depletion of nutritional reserves and significant weight loss can precipitate an increased risk of morbidity, reduced chemotherapy response, and shorter survival in patients with cancer.
