Conventional Polymer Processing Additives

BySemen B. Kharchenko, Kalman B. Migler, Savvas G. Hatzikiriakos

Commercial polymer processing operations, such as fiber spinning, film blowing, blow molding, profile extrusion, and various coating flows, suffer by the onset of flow instabilities, which manifest themselves as distortions of the extruded product (Chapters 5-7). These phenomena, collectively known as melt fracture, pose a limitation in the rate production that threatens the economic feasibility of the processes (1-8).
