ABSTRACT
Despite the use of antibiotics and advances in surgical technique, the incidence of implantassociated infection in joint replacement remains between 0.5% and 2%, owing to the ubiquity of pathogenic organisms. Such an infected implant would then require further surgical debridement as a systemic antibiotic is ineffective in eradicating infection fully.
