ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Surgical debridement is the physical removal of necrotic material, foreign bodies, and infected tissue from the bed of an acute or chronic ulcer, with an evident secondary reduction in bacterial load. This treatment helps to obtain a more suitable environment for restoring the physiologic processes of tissue repair.
