ABSTRACT

The Heteroptera, or “true bugs,” is a suborder of the insect order Hemiptera. The status of the other suborder, “Homoptera,” has recently been questioned, because not all its members seem to have had a common ancestor. However, no one questions that the Heteroptera had a common ancestor. The close important similarities between Heteroptera and the other hemipterans argues very strongly that all are closely related; that is the reason we (and most other students of Heteroptera) treat all Hemiptera as a single order.
