ABSTRACT
Today, the production of tobacco in the Southeastern U.S. continues to be an important contributor to the economy of that region. Tobacco income has allowed many small family farms to remain self-sufficient. In North Carolina, tobacco accounts for over one billion dollars/year in cash receipts at the farm gate.
