ABSTRACT

Accessibility standardization efforts are accelerating, both nationally and internationally. One purpose of this chapter is to identify and describe some of the most relevant U.S. and international standards that could be applied or adapted for use in ensuring the accessibility of medical devices and medical instrumentation. A second purpose is to discuss other ergonomics standards-related work in the areas of home health care and medical instrumentation that have the potential to incorporate accessibility-related guidance. This chapter emphasizes the need for coordination and cooperation among the various affected stakeholders to ensure successful standardization.
