ABSTRACT

Beneficial effects of afforestations on water purity result from phytosorption of chemical compounds from the soil solution. Afforestations are able to counteract or minimize the effects of extreme climatic or weather phenomena that have a detrimental influence on plant cultures, open animal breedings, living conditions, and human health; for example, they have an obvious anti-erosive function. All types of afforestations favor wildlife resource preservation in agricultural landscapes and maintenance of rich biodiversity. Afforestation problems have usually been underestimated in comparison to other factors determining socioeconomic development of rural areas. To properly fulfill their protective functions, afforestations have to be persistent elements in the landscape. Farmland afforestations are indispensable factors supplementing the “country’s program of afforestation increase” since they fulfill the majority functions. Rationally managed networks of biogeochemical barriers usually contain well-functioning refuges of many species and ecological corridors for their migration, as confirmed by extensive studies on biological resources in the Agro-ecological Landscape Park near Turew.
