ABSTRACT
Summary
In this chapter, first the need for health monitoring in mechatronic systems is explained. Next, the nature of failures and the way they affect the system are outlined. The detailed health monitoring process and how failures are characterized are presented. An overview of the existing approaches for fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) is discussed. Next, an example of a mechatronic system is given where schemes of health monitoring and FDD are crucial. In concluding the chapter, some results from the developed algorithm are presented and discussed.
