ABSTRACT
A workpiece or component is an individual part that is de ned by its structure, that is, geometrical a nd m aterial parameters. T he g eometrical parameters a re t he m acrogeometry (shapes, dimensions) and the microgeometry (surface contour) of the workpiece. The material parameters a re described by t he c hemical co mposition o f t he m aterial a nd i ts condition. In this connection, the structure of the core and of the surface layer has to be distinguished.
