Pages 34

In previous chapters, physicochemical and physiological aspects of lung aerosol-delivery systems have been discussed. This chapter addresses the route of delivery and the various therapeutic aerosol options available for the treatment of asthma. The chief uses of aerosols designed for delivery of medication to the lungs are the immediate and prophylactic treatment of asthma and chronic irreversible obstructive lung diseases (e.g., chronic bronchitis and emphysema). This chapter compares the advantages and disadvantages of different drug-delivery systems employed for the optimal management of asthma.
