One study with rhesus monkeys showed that ethanol consumption and water consumption patterns did not run parallel; most water was consumed during and directly after the meals, the least water during the night (Figure 5.1). Ethanol was consumed in a rather stable pattern which continued throughout the night (from ref. 37). However, consumption patterns are often confounded by diurnal patterns of eating and drinking.
