ABSTRACT
The type of masking noise produced by many audiometers is broad-band or white noise. A more efficient masking noise is called narrow-band noise. The temporary hearing loss produced by masking noise is not the same for all frequencies at a particular dial setting of the masking control. It follows, then, that the numbers appearing· on the masking control should be regarded as practically meaningless unless appropriate correction tables are compiled and formulas applied.
