ABSTRACT

Ubiquitous computing inherently includes natural interaction between humans and digital devices embedded in their environment. The desktop metaphor (Smith 1982) works well in the office, but it is not so well suited to ubiquitous and mobile computing (Want et al. 1998). The limited size of the mobile devices restricts the display area and handheld devices do not support the use of mouse or other common ways of pointing. Also the use of QWERTY keyboards is limited by the size of the mobile devices.
