Increasingly, collection of normal and neoplastic human tissue is being incor-

porated in the design of clinical trials and in routine clinical settings under tissue

banking programs. The goal behind these activities is either to facilitate iden-

tification and development of robust predictive or prognostic biomarkers or to

enable basic investigation of tumor or host biology.
