ABSTRACT
The movement of energy, matter, and organisms through space and time drives change in geographic domains. The phenomenon of interest can be, for example, inorganic material whose fate and transport are governed by physical law or complex interacting organisms making contextually dependent decisions. In this chapter we discuss ongoing research in GIScience aimed at the digital representation of such objects. Particular attention is paid to the representation and interpretation of mobile, aware, and intelligent agents (MAIA) that interact with one another and the environment within which they live.
