ABSTRACT

Carcinogenesis represents the unwarranted appearance or increased incidence of abnormal cell proliferation occurring in an age-matched low-risk group whose propensity for development of cancer is statistically lower. A carcinogen is any chemical or viral agent that increases the frequency or distribution of new tumors, results in their appearance within a low-risk or otherwise early-age group, or results in the introduction of new pathological growths otherwise absent in experimental controls.
