Management of Cytopenias in MDS

The central clinical characteristic of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) is peripheral blood cytopenias (1). Hematopoietic progenitors in MDS have impaired ability to differentiate and increased susceptibility to apoptosis, resulting in ineffective hematopoiesis.
