ABSTRACT

Nodular thyroid disease, the presence of single or multiple nodules within the thyroid gland, is a common clinical problem. Most clinicians-particularly primary care physicians, pediatricians, internists, endocrinologists, and general surgeonsshould regularly evaluate patients with thyroid nodules and consequently must make diagnostic and management decisions. Solitary nodules may be benign or malignant; multinodular glands may be asymptomatic, toxic, nontoxic, benign, or malignant. Each patient is evaluated for structural and functional abnormalities.
