ABSTRACT
PTFCE is prepared by suspension polymerization. PTFCE can also be made via emulsion polymerization to produce high molecular weight polymers. The 1-chloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethene monomer is purified prior to use for polymerization by washing with water to remove alcohol, is dried, and then distilled under pressure. The reaction temperature is in the range of 0°C-40°C. Initiation is carried out via redox systems activated by a metal salt such as persulfate-bisulfite with a ferrous salt.
