ABSTRACT

Preventive medicine is a medical specialty that applies a population-based or systemic approach to improve the health of individuals (American College of Preventive Medicine 2012). Among the many roles of preventive medicine physicians, most work to identify high-risk subpopulations through the application of statistical methods, prevent and limit disease and injury, facilitate early diagnosis through screening and education outreach, promote health and wellness in individuals and populations, and improve the quality of health-care delivery (American College of Preventive Medicine 2011).
