ABSTRACT

Leukemia is a kind of malignant blood disease characterized by the accumulation or inltration of undifferentiated hematopoietic precursors or “blasts” in tissues, especially in blood and bone marrow. Clinically, leukemia is divided into two major categories, acute and chronic. Furthermore, the disease is subdivided into lymphocytic and myelogenous leukemia according to which lineage blood cells are involved. Myelogenous leukemia, contains acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), while the acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a subtype of AML.
