ABSTRACT

Technical assistance in pollution prevention activities has had marginal success over the years with a national average adoption rate of around 10%.1 ¢e Toxics Use Reduction Institute’s (TURI’s) Laboratory (Lab) has traditionally had slightly higher success, with about a third of companies adopting the changes that recommend solvent substitution in cleaning application.2 In an attempt to improve the adoption rate of the work conducted at the Lab, a more comprehensive on-site follow-up assistance program was implemented in 2006. ¢e process utilized is described in this chapter with several case studies illustrating the successful practices.
