ABSTRACT

The micro-Hutchinson’s sign: is is pigmentation of the periungual tissue that could not be seen with the naked eye. is may be important for the early diagnosis of subungual melanoma. Dermoscopy can distinguish the “malignant” Hutchinson’s sign from the “benign” Hutchinson’s sign. In the “malignant” Hutchinson’s sign, dermoscopy shows the parallel ridge pattern, characterized by accentuated pigmentation in the deep intermediate ridges, with or without obliteration of the eccrine gland ducts. In the “benign” Hutchinson’s sign, dermoscopy shows a brushy linear pigmentation across the skin marks; this is commonly seen in the benign nevi of children.
