ABSTRACT

In the vanguard of such efforts to use vertical spaces for pedestrian transport is the network of pedestrian routes that was constructed in England, primarily in the city of London, beginning in the 1970s. Based on the strong support of Professor Sir Colin Buchanan for the idea of separating pedestrian and vehicular traffic, the proposal proceeded rapidly to the stage of implementation. Unlike Japan, however, within a very short period of time opinion regarding these structures in England had declined.
