ABSTRACT
An ancient example of cross-disciplinary work with recognised success was the creation of the Pombalino cage applied after the strong Lisbon earthquake of 1755. Both disciplinesarchitecture and civil engineering-established a regular structure to withstand seismic loads and simultaneous regularity on the façades and spaces to comply with urban requirements and to establish a new image of Lisbon. It is an example of multidisciplinary innovation.
