ABSTRACT

The use of continuous timber laths to build a grid-shell structure makes possible to cover large spans by lightweight and stiff construction. Neve rtheless, seldom this technique has been used. “The reason for the apparent lack of enthusiasm may stem from the unique challenges associated with the design and formation process” (Kelly et al. 2001) which consist to deform an initial flat grid made of continuous strai ght la ths j oined together. Accordingl y, a form -finding analysis is required to design this kind of structures.
