ABSTRACT

Cross laminated timber (CLT) is not a new material. If we look closely at the history, it’s easy to find impressive “old” experiences. What is “new” is to know how to produce it on huge prefabricated formats to meet nearly every single requirement in structural design. This new way of using timber started by half the nineties in Ce ntral Europe, and is currently expanding quickly particularly in Europe (the forecast for 2015, according studies of TU-Graz, is around 1 m illion cubic meters). Programs to prom ote its use are being extrem ely successful in areas like Nort h America, New Zealand and Australia.
