Hydrodynamics of Gas-Liquid-Solid Fluidized Bed Reactor

In this chapter, the gained results of numerical simulation of gas velocity effect on the phases hold-up in a three phase fluidized bed column have been provided using computational fluid dynamics. Eulerian multiphase model and standard k-epsilon (K-ε) turbulence model are used for column simulation. The gained results of stimulation are compared with experimental data in one column with laboratory dimensions containing liquid phase with 100 cm height and 20 cm diameter and have good agreement with experimental data. The solid phase with 0.15 volume fraction dispersion into liquid phase and the gas phase entered the column through a sparger of 2 cm diameter with various velocities. The results show as the gas phase velocity increases from 0.02 to 0.08 m/sec, the solid hold-up will decrease and simultaneously the gas hold-up will increase. The radial examination of the gas hold-up also demonstrates that the level of hold-up in the center of the column, specially the gas phase hold-up, is more than the one by the walls.
