Technology Transfer: Turning Science into Products
As the previous chapters of this book have shown, a large array of scientific investigations were carried out in relation to meeting capture, processing and retrieval scenarios. While this research chiefly covers fundamental scientific issues, it can also serve as the basis for innovative products. This chapter will show how scientific results can be given additional commercial value by encouraging knowledge and technology transfer between research institutions and the industrial world. This will be illustrated through several examples drawn from the IM2 NCCR, which had as one of its main additional goals the transfer of technology and the development of entrepreneurial spirit in its community.
